The Royal Air Force has been in existence for almost a century.
In that time its servicemen and women have been involved in action at home, especially during the Battle of Britain, and abroad in numerous wars, confrontations and conflicts.
The book attempts to reflect the many roles it has carried out. Apart from obvious combat ones, the RAF’s aircraft have carried out humanitarian airlifts, provided a search and rescue service for thousands, performed countless air displays at home and abroad amongst others.
Of course machines are nothing without the personnel and I was lucky enough to complement the descriptions of equipment, history, etc, with personal accounts of life in the Service. To those who contributed I am eternally grateful.
